Eligibility & Dues

You are eligible for membership if you are a state or local governmental employee 55 years of age or older and/or have 25 years of creditable service, the spouse of a current member, or the beneficiary of either of the above. Annual dues are based on your combined monthly Social Security and North Carolina retirement income as shown in the chart below.

Less than $400	$10 per year or .83 cents per month
$400 - $799	$15 per year or $1.25 per month
$800 or more	$20 per year or $1.67 per month
Active Employee	$20 per year
Associate Member (Spouse of Current Member)	$20 per year
Paid member 90+ years old	FREE

Payroll deduction of your dues is available for retirees from your retirement check. Active Employees and Associate Members are not eligible for payroll deduction since they do not receive a retirement check. If you are interested in joining the Association, you may Join Online or Print & Mail your application!

You also have another option, which is to buy a lifetime membership. Lifetime members pay on a graduated dues scale.

If you are interested in the lifetime membership benefit, please Join Online or Print & Mail your application! Lifetime members will receive a laminated, lifetime membership card and are eligible for the same benefits as other members. We currently have over 2,800 lifetime members in the Association.
